american flag waving in the airExciting initiatives are underway with Civics Education projects during the month of July with the Young Leaders Academy for High School Students and the Summer Teacher Institute for KY High School Teachers. This summer marks the conclusion of the first four year grant awarded the McConnell Center, Jefferson County Public Schools and the College of Education and Human Development, entitled Shaping a New Nation: Turning Points in American History.

The McConnell Center began Civics Education projects to help address in Kentucky the national problem of declining classroom emphasis on American history and civics education, abysmal student knowledge of the American Constitution and political processes, and a growing detachment of young people from the political process.
